SCS Maintains Top Ranking for Computer Science From U.S. News and World Report

Carnegie Mellon University's School of Computer Science maintained its No. 1 overall position for undergraduate computer science in U.S. News and World Report's 2023 Best Colleges rankings.

The school ranked first in the undergraduate specialty areas of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, programming languages and software engineering. The university’s management information systems program also received a top ranking. 

Overall, CMU was ranked the third most innovative school in the report and moved to No. 22 from No. 25. The university ranked No. 1 in eight specialties, including the four within the SCS.

With its class of 2026 achieving near gender parity, SCS ranked in the top five in all 10 specialties. Seventeen CMU programs ranked in the top five, and another six are in the top 10, giving CMU a total of 23 programs in the top 10 of this year’s rankings.
