Summer is flying by! The SCS DEI office has been busy getting ready for orientation and the start of the fall semester.
The SCS DEI Team needs student volunteers to help with First-Year Orientation!
If you are interested, email us.
SCS is working to increase participation at several fall 2021 diversity conferences.
SCS recruiting will have a virtual presence at the Richard Tapia Celebration of Diversity in Computer Science (Sept. 14–18) and Grace Hopper Celebration (Sept. 27–Oct. 1). We have added a new sponsorship this fall and will be attending the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) virtual career fair Nov. 13–14.
SCS will once again provide subsidized registrations to a limited number of student attendees. Our team is gearing up to get students set and gather information about REU, lab internship, and post-doc opportunities for the coming year to advertise during the fairs. Faculty, staff and student volunteers will also be needed to meet with prospective applicants during the conferences. Watch for more updates and direct email requests as we prepare for each conference.
Are you interested in Bias Busters workshops for the fall? If so, send us an email. We are reforming the options for training to serve large groups and remote groups this year. Once we receive your email, we will request more information from you. There will also be several general trainings offered in SCS throughout the fall. A number of recorded sessions from the University of Pittsburgh's Diversity Forum are now available to view on the Pitt Diversity YouTube channel.
Thank you,
The DEI Team
